The children of the Barnes Montessori Nursery celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in many ways. On 15th May they went to Richmond Park for the Queen’s visit to the Borough. In their crowns and specially designed t-shirts for the occasion they had banners and waved flags amidst driving rain, hail, thunder, wind and the cold! Parents and carers joined in the event which was memorable. In years to come they will be able to say “I was there”.
The theme continued at school. A parent, who is an artist, involved all the children in painting a large canvass with a crown in the middle. This was a sensory experience and enjoyed by all. Another parent brought in samples of rocks and diamonds and talked about how they are mined. They made connections with the Queen’s crowns.
To start off the Jubilee celebration week-end we had a Jubilee Tea Party. The children finished the party with a Union Jack cake and sang the National Anthem.
