INTRODUCTION

Introduction to Barnes Montessori Nursery

WELCOME TO THE BARNES MONTESSORI NURSERY

The school is fortunate to have immediate access to a large secure, well tended, green field and a short walk away from Barnes’s hidden treasure – the reservoir – where the children go for walks and connect with nature. We also run a Forest School there one afternoon a week. There are three classes – Cricket, Ladybird and Butterfly – and pre-group (Caterpillar) Tuesday afternoons in the Summer Term prior to starting in September.

Pre-school years are important formative years. We are proud to practise the unique Montessori approach to learning. The Montessori curriculum is educational and holistic. It is at the heart of everything we do and is delivered in conjunction with the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage. It is planned to provide for all areas of a child’s learning and development.

We are dedicated to helping each child reach his full potential whilst fostering their development. We achieve this through our Montessori approach providing a warm, friendly, secure and stimulating natural environment for the children in our care.

We offer a wide range of activities, both inside and outside, enabling each child to develop to the best of his or her abilities, encouraging and motivating them at their own pace. In this way the children learn to discipline themselves, without interference, and take ownership of their decisions. Consequently they become more independent and build on their self-esteem and confidence.

We believe in mutual respect whilst encouraging friendly and considerate manners towards peers and adults which is part of the school’s ethos. We promote in our children a positive attitude, enthusiasm and a sense of achievement. We enable each child to discover, explore and question showing curiosity and develop of love of learning.

Detailed assessments and record-keeping are kept on each child. We track their learning and development but also welcome parents’ input as their child’s first educators and aim to forge strong links with them.

Barnes Montessori Nursery is a wonderful place for children to grow and develop. Their experience with us, as individuals, will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
