SCHOOL STAFF

Barnes Montessori Nursery staff Staff at the Barnes Montessori Nursery are responsible, loving, and dedicated. They are long serving and committed. They work towards achieving the best for the children in our care.

Between them all they have a wealth of experience in childcare. All staff are vetted and have CRB checks. Most of the staff have First Aid training and all attend professional training courses.

Anne-Marie True, Mont. F.D . & Dip - Principal and Proprietor since 1987

Barnes Montessori Principal Married with three children all of whom attended the Barnes Montessori Nursery. Trained at the St. Nicholas Montessori Training College. Regularly attends Professional Development Courses. Was governor of an independent school for over 8 years and governor of a maintained Primary School in the Borough for 12 years. Over the years has sat on various committees in the education sector including the Borough's Education and Overview Scrutiny Committee and was the (PVI) Private, Voluntary and Independent Schools Forum representative. Anne-Marie has been London co-ordinator and National Secretary of the Montessori Early Years Forum (MEYF). Currently on the Montessori Evaluation and Accreditation Board (MEAB) and the Montessori Examination Board. One of the founder members of the Save Our Nursery Campaign.

Charlotte White, Mont. Dip.

Married with three children. Has been involved with the Barnes Montessori Nursery since 1982 as a parent, assistant and Montessori teacher. She is also a key worker. She trained at Wimbledon Montessori College. She deputises for the Principal; is one of the school's SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and is the school's First Aid Officer. Charlotte is a Qualified First Aid Trainer (NUCO) and a Montessori Accreditation Inspector (MEAB).

Anne O'Leary, Mont. Dip.

Joined in 2000. Married with teenage twin daughters. She is a trained nurse and qualified Montessori Teacher. Anne trained at the Wimbledon Montessori College. She is also a key worker. She is the school's Safeguarding - Child Protection Co-ordinator.

Alexandra (Zarnie) Coad, RN, RSCN

Joined in 2009. Married with one daughter. Paediatric and General Nurse having trained at Great Ormond Street and The Royal Free Hospital in London. Has been a ward sister and nurse manager in various London hospitals and was part of the commissioning team for The Cromwell Hospital in London. Recently worked in nursing recruitment.

Sarah di Giulio

Has been involved with the Barnes Montessori Nursery for a number of years as a classroom assistant. She is particularly creative and flexible. She works one day a week and is on call when needed.

Deborah Johnson

Joined in 2006. Married with three children. Trained and worked as a Home Economist. In addition to working as a part time classroom assistant she cooks with the children giving them huge enthusiasm in this area incorporating other areas of the curriculum. Deborah is flexible and stands in when needed.

Colette Joyce

Joined in 2008. Married with two teenage daughters. She is the school's Health and Safety Officer. Colette is also a key worker.

Deborah Luke

Joined in 1989. Married with three daughters and two grandchildren. She is the school's Equal Opportunities Co-ordinator. Deborah is both musical and creative. Deborah works as a part time classroom assistant and stands in when needed.

Kim Mackay

Joined in 2009 but has been associated with the school for a number of years. Married with two teenage children both of whom attended the Barnes Montessori Nursery. Kim is currently qualifying as a Montessori teacher at Montessori Centre International. She is a class assistant. Kim is particularly creative and trained in Fine Arts at Goldsmith College prior to a career in Theatre Design.

Emma Sargeant, Mont. dip.

Emma joined in 1994 as a student and later as a class teacher. After a gap of 12 years she is once again working at the nursery having recently returned from living in India. While in India she worked for Aseema Charitable Trust, which educates children from the streets and slums of Mumbai using the Montessori Method of Education. Emma trained at the St. Nicholas Montessori Centre.

Specialist teachers come in for French (Miss Amandine Ferreira), Music (Miss Eugenie Aitchison) and Dance and Movement (Miss Vickie Luke). Vickie qualified as an Exercise to Music Instructor with the YMCA and has extensive experience teaching dance and exercise to children and adults.

Basil and Fennel - School dogs

Child friendly dogs Basil and Fennel are two child and adult friendly black Labradors. They have been coming to Barnes Montessori Nursery since they were puppies. They are both wormed, treated for fleas and checked by a vet regularly. Basil, a 9 year old, is a regular visitor to the Royal Veterinary College where he is used for students to learn their anatomy. Both are used for the handling exam due to their exceptional pliant nature. Fennel, 4 years old, is a regular blood donor at the College. Basil likes to retrieve and has eyes much bigger than his stomach. Fennel, however, loves to join in with the latest games. Both, with their laid back attitudes, provide the perfect opportunity for children to get used to animals and learn how to handle them.

REGISTRATION

If you are interested in registering for a place then please contact the Principal.

Children are only registered for entry in the September term and have to be 2 years old by the cut-off date of the 31st March of that year. Subject to availability there are occasional places at other times of the year.

The offer of a place is subject to availability, and registration does not guarantee a place. Places are confirmed February prior to entry date.

SCHOOL HOURS

9.20 am - 12.20 p.m. (Monday - Friday)

Children in the Butterfly Class finish at 12 noon on Fridays.

Children who take afternoon sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays finish at 3 p.m.

SCHOOL POLICIES

The school has an extensive list of school policies which are available upon request. They are reviewed every year and more frequently if necessary. The School safeguards and promotes the children's welfare at all times.

The Barnes Montessori Nursery Safeguarding Policy and Procedure follows the London Safeguarding Board procedures which can be found on www.londonscb.gov.uk

Safeguarding children is everyone's responsibility.
